Michelle Thevenot (Durell) is a nature-inspired artist from Saskatchewan, Canada. Having always known that she was here to do great things, Michelle made it her life's mission to appreciate and share nature's gifts with others, something she is infinitely familiar with because of her deep, intuitive connection with the forest.
She has the great fortune of studying natural life within Saskatchewan's northern boreal forest, a key force that helps her become authentically inspired. By channeling lessons observed in the wilderness, her artwork visual storytelling.
Her artwork uses natural resources and mixed media (more than one material) which is diverse and ever-changing, much like the natural environment from which she draws inspiration.
Wood Carving
Michelle has a special connection with trees and forests to start with, so working with wood is a natural draw. She uses power tools to create sculptures and engravings - the largest of such tools being a chainsaw. She picked up a chainsaw for the first time in early 2019, and hasn’t looked back. She was motivated by girl-power determination to overcome intimidation, along with seeking opportunity to experiment, grow, and learn. Power carving is often combined with pyrography (wood burning) and/or painting, making her creations a combination of expression.
Fur Design
Using sustainably sourced natural fur, Michelle designs and creates a variety of textile arts. Wearable, practical, art pieces made with renewable resources connects an outdoor lifestyle and family heritage in fur industry.
