Tips for a Successful Showcase- Visual Arts Delegates

If this is your first time at Showcase, or you are a seasoned expert, there are a few tips to get you prepared to make the most out of the weekend for you and your community!

Tip one: come prepared! Bring your upcoming schedule so that you know what dates you need to fill in your programming. A paper print out can be handy for making notes when viewing the exhibitions.

Tip two: consider your audience and what has brought them into the space in the past. Have they expressed an interest in a certain type of art or artist? Who are your visitors and what do they like? Are there people in your community that don't currently visit the gallery, but you'd like them to? What can you bring in that might encourage them to visit?

Tip three: wear comfortable shoes! It is a full weekend filled with long days, make sure you are comfortable so you can enjoy everything on offer.

Tip four: make sure to attend the Sunday morning Visual Arts Exchange if you can. We cover programing ideas for each exhibition, break down logistical requirements and considerations, cover any changes to the Program Grants (including what you can receive funding for), and share ideas and tips among arts councils.

Tip five: submit your booking request as soon as possible! Dates fill up quickly.

Tip six: have fun! This is a time to celebrate the hard work that you and your arts council do for your community!
