Zachary Lucky
Zachary Lucky is an award nominated Canadian songwriter celebrated for his timeless blend of folk, country, and roots music. Hailing from Saskatchewan, and continuing the family legacy (the grandson of Canadian country pioneer Smilin’ Johnnie Lucky), he crafts songs steeped in place, memory, and the quiet resilience of everyday life. His warm baritone and evocative storytelling have drawn comparisons to Gordon Lightfoot and John Prine.
Zachary has spent more than 15 years building a reputation as one of Canada’s hardest-working independent songwriters, performing thousands of shows across Canada, the US, the UK and Europe. He has appeared at the Mariposa Folk Festival, Canmore Folk Festival, Regina Folk Festival, Dawson City Music Festival, Rambling Roots Music Festival (Netherlands), Static Roots Festival (Germany) and many more, and has been an official showcasing artist at Folk Alliance International three times. In 2025, he was chosen to represent Canada at the World Expo in Osaka Japan.
His 2024 album The Wind surpassed 500,000 streams within months and earned international acclaim. The UK music publication KLOF hailed it as “up there with the best, alongside Guy Clark, Tom Rush, and Townes Van Zandt,” while Great Dark Wonder wrote, “The Wind deepens Lucky’s growing reputation as a laureate poet of the rootless and restless, the lonesome and forsaken.”
Praised by No Depression and The Globe and Mail as a master storyteller, Zachary Lucky has safely reserved his spot at the table of Canadian roots royalty.
